aboutWhat is the Kaleidoscope Project? If I had to describe it—what it is, what I'm trying to accomplish—I'd say it's simply an example of creating something beautiful and captivating out of the ordinary, everyday world around me. The moving video image is the canvas and the video footage of the common things I see from day to day are the paints. This was the inspiration and the idea has evolved from there. For example, I also apply the techniques discovered during the learning process to staged, artifical events, which are either captured by video camera or created entirely in the virtual world HistoryThe Kaleidoscope Project was born from a failed concept. In the summer of 2006, I mounted a camera in the passenger side seat of my car in an attempt to capture the expressions on people's faces as they turned in front of my car. Unfortunately, my consumer miniDV camera was not capable of recording the footage I'd envisioned, but the shots I ended-up with gave me another idea. The next few hours were spent slicing, resizing and stacking layer upon layer of video, thus creating the first prototype, Intersection. The original plan was to make a series of pieces, but the inspiration stalled and the project was abandoned... until January of 2008 when it was resurrected. And, here we are today. Where do I see it?At the moment, the medium of delivery is restricted to DVD. While I could deliver the pieces via the internet, there are concerns of usage and quality. However, unless the demand became unreasonable, all you have to do is ask for a copy. As the installments are created, I'll send you a copy. Click here to be included. |
